Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama Padmavati has run into rough weather yet again with the film distributors refusing to release the film in cinema halls in Rajasthan. The distributors said if the film hurts the sentiments of people due to the distortion of historical facts they will not pick up its distribution rights. “Let the Shri Rajput Karni Sena and filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali reach an amicable solution. We will buy the distribution rights only after that,” Raj Bansal, a leading film distributor from the state, said on Monday . Other film distributors too echoed Bansal’s sentiments.
The film distributors took the tough stand a day after Congress leader Pratap Singh Kachariya was, a Rajput himself, joined the chorus and demanded a ban on the film. State home minister Gulab Chand Kataria, however, recently came out in support of the film and said that it would be released at any cost and, if need be, with police protection.
The Karni Sena members said they will also write to exhibitors in ‘blood’ not to screen the film.
